During the first four months of the 2020 lockdown and the need to Stay At Home, I found myself doodling on paper maps and travelling the UK in my mind, thinking of people and places I knew. The result is 'The COVID 19', a series of nineteen works on AA Road Maps: images created using the roads, towns, coastlines and land-masses of our country to develop patterns and express feelings of isolation, fear and unease. The 'viral' look of these pieces reflect the coronavirus images that bombarded our news screens amid ever increasing death rates. They reflect some strange, disturbing, unsettling and darkly humourous states as well as the bright and vibrant sense of life continuing during this unprecendented time. They were also helpful to me as I lost myself in colour, pattern and design and for short periods at least forgot about the restricted life we were having to lead. All pieces are for sale individually at £75 each (mounted on black card, unframed), contact online@trapeziumarts to purchase.
