I am a fine artist painting primarily in oils and acrylics.
My subjects range from abstract landscapes, figurative and still life, to colour field painting. My aim is to portray on canvas the deeper feeling that develops, as I engage my subject matter. I paint from the heart using my eyes.
In addition to pure imagery and abstraction, my interest in colour has a major influence on most of my artwork. It explains my particular fascination with the use of oil paints, given the much wider depth and breadth of colour that is achievable using this medium.
To hone my seeing and drawing skills and support my painting, I regularly undertake life drawing, using pencil, charcoal or acrylic inks, the latter creating a more spontaneous and unpredictable result. I run a life and portrait group at Keighley Creative.
Key influences on my painting style are Turner, Cezanne, Monet, Picasso, Rothki, Modigliani and many more.
